I’ve never been a fan of the Blue Jay since he seemed little more than a flamboyant bully who would show up at the birdfeeder and scare all the other birds away. Several different varieties of birds, both big and small, ate quietly together sharing their seed, until the Jay arrived with a showy fly in and a raucous call scattering the diners. All the same, just because you’re not personally fond of animal, don’t ignore its message.
The Jay is a noisy bird. Those with Jay characteristics are talkers. If a Jay is your totem animal you could have a career in law, politics, teacher, actor, sales, any job where you spoke at length. What I consider being a bully, is both boldness and fearlessness. The Jay goes after what he wants. He also defends family and territory. (To be honest, the Jay visiting my feeder is more generous than most since he swoops in for a meal, then leaves immediately.)
Since a Jay is intelligent, he may sense the other birds’ unease. He can also mimic other birds’ calls too. No wonder Blue Jay people make excellent actors. Determination is probably the best word to describe a Jay. He knows what he wants, sees it, goes after it, and gets it. Even birds of a similar size give the Jay a wide berth. This is one animal whose reputation precedes him.
Blue Jays tend to be both curious and focused. The bird takes advantage of any advantageous for nesting from the heated giant letters for the grocery sign to an open mailbox. He is a very resourceful bird. Most scientists theorized that animals can’t see in color the way we do, but the Blue Jay has a preference for shiny and blue objects. The beautiful blue color of the male jay makes it a favorite of bird watchers.
