The interesting things about totem animals is you don’t have to actually physically see them in your home or on the way to work. Good deal especially if a mythological animal is serving as your totem. How can it happen then?
I was walking through the woods with my glasses on and saw a burnt out hulk of a log that resembled a black bear. Another time, I was drawn to a stained glass representation of a bear. I don’t collect bears. Have a healthy respect for them, but prefer not to meet them in person. These small incidents caused me to look up what a bear has to say about my life.
Then there are days when you do physically meet your totem. I’ve had birds, rabbits, chipmunks, even beavers cross my path and I live in the city. Vultures, ravens, egrets and even hawks have stopped by my yard. It makes me take note.
Never underestimate your dreams. I dreamed of mice the other night. They were everywhere, but I couldn’t catch them. I didn’t want to kill them just catch them. That caused me to look up mice as totem animals in Dr. Steven Farmer’s Spirit Animals pocket guide book.
A mouse reminds us to be careful of details. It is a time of plenty, but failure to notice the little things can diminish the good times and prosperity. It is a time for examination of what work and doesn’t work in your life. It’s an opportunity to toss out the never worked or hardly worked in your daily routine.
It’s a time for analyzing little things. By focusing on a single item, an opportunity could be missed.
What did this mean to me? I cleaned out my closet that stymied me of ever finding anything. I changed up my work routine to be more efficient. The little details caught my attention as opposed powering past them to get to the bigger items.
These are all good things and have improved my life. I could have just awoken from my mouse dream and went out and bought mouse traps. Thank goodness, I didn’t.
