Smolder is coming out October 31st
The bonfires on the beach picked out the colors on the gypsy wagons causing them to glitter in the setting sun. The craggy hills provided a backdrop in the lengthening twilight and created solid arms that embraced the crescent shaped beach. The deep roar of the waves swept through Meara moving into her blood and bones. As she stumbled from the water, Shona’s strong arm wrapped around her shoulders, and Rosemary’s arm encircling her waist prevented her from going head first into the surf. Ardan lifted a weary hand to the people on the beach and shouted, “We made it. At the end, I was sure the sea had decided to take us for her own.”
“They’re here.” A shout went up and people spilled out of the wagons. Some ran toward her while others picked up instruments and played.
A woman with wild curling hair glowing red in the twilight walked to them with a smile while gesturing for the others to follow. She must be Red Monesha that Destiny, the fortune teller, had mentioned would take her the next step of her journey. A hand of uncertainty squeezed her chest as she worried that she had lost the emerald necklace that would serve as her payment for the ride in the sea. The weight of the emerald necklace swung underneath her shirt reassured.
Meara unlooped her payment from her neck and put them in the redhead’s hand, held open discreetly at hip level, almost buried in her skirt.
Her smile brightened as her fingers closed over the necklace. “Welcome, welcome to the second part of your journey. We were told you would be coming in farther down the coast.” Her hand flattened over her heart. “Monesha knows better than to listen to the words. I listened to my heart instead and waited here. It’s time.”
